Strut have helped to rejuvenate the music of saxophonist Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids in recent years with a trio of acclaimed spiritual and Afro-jazz new studio albums.
The label has now agreed a deal with Ackamoor for the band’s back catalogue and the first fruits have just been announced, a brand new 4LP box set bringing together their incredible 1970s recordings, originally self-released by the band. The set features the remastered LPs Lalibela (1973), King Of Kings (1974) and Birth / Speed / Merging (1976) alongside the first ever vinyl issue of their live session for KQED TV in 1975. An accompanying 12-page 12”-sized booklet features extended interviews with The Pyramids by Francis Gooding and a host of unseen photos. Watch out for more reissues in 2023 along with an adventurous new album.
